Commissioned by the Amsterdam drapers' corporation, The Syndics of the Drapers' Guild stands as one of Rembrandt's ultimate masterpieces, completed in 1662, when the Dutch master was traversing a period of absolute artistic maturity. This monumental painting immortalizes six influential members of the textile corporation – five syndics and their servant – gathered around a table covered with a sumptuous purple oriental carpet.
